Located in Brady, Texas, the Old McCulloch County Jail is a Richardsonian Romanesque structure that now functions as the Heart of Texas Historical Museum. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1976, the building reflects the robust stone construction and rounded arches characteristic of the Romanesque Revival style. The jail's conversion to a museum in 1974 preserves its architectural heritage while serving the local community. The site holds additional significance as Brady lies near the geographical center of Texas, designated by the Texas Historical Commission in 1963 and commemorated by a granite monument on the nearby McCulloch County Courthouse grounds.
