The Opéra national de Montpellier Languedoc-Roussillon, located on the Place de la Comédie in Montpellier, is an opera company established in 1755 and designated as a national opera in 2002. The company's primary historic venue, the Opéra Comédie, was constructed between 1884 and 1888 by Cassien Bernard, a pupil of Charles Garnier, in the Italian style. This distinguished building features a 1,200-seat main auditorium and the smaller 350-seat Salle Molière concert hall, with an interior that has earned critical acclaim and has held the status of a classified historical monument since September 2020. Since 1990, the company has also utilized the 2,000-seat Opéra Berlioz within the Le Corum arts complex, which opened with the same opera—*Les Huguenots*—that had inaugurated the Opéra Comédie 102 years earlier. The Opéra Berlioz is noted for its pink granite walls, movable wooden ceiling, and wooden orchestra pit, offering both functional design and acoustics praised for clear instrumental and vocal projection.
