The Paramount Theatre in downtown Oakland is a 3,040-seat Art Deco concert hall designed by Timothy L. Pflueger and completed in 1931, when it was the largest multi-purpose theater on the West Coast. Sited at 2025 Broadway, its streamlined Art Deco aesthetic reflects the modernist aspirations of the Depression era. Today it serves as the home venue for the Oakland Symphony and Oakland Ballet, while hosting a diverse programming of R&B, jazz, blues, pop, rock, gospel, classical music, ballets, plays, stand-up comedy, and classic film screenings. Recognized as a California Historical Landmark and National Historic Landmark, the Paramount remains a cornerstone of Oakland's cultural life.
