Pernštejn Castle stands on a rock above the village of Nedvědice in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic, about 40 kilometres northwest of Brno. Founded by the Lords of Medlov probably between 1270 and 1285, it was finished in the first half of the 16th century by the Pernštejn family, lords of the Bohemian kingdom's richest and most powerful noble house, in a Gothic and Renaissance form. It is known as the marble castle for the marble-like stone framing its doors and windows.
