The Phare des Pierres Noires, a granite lighthouse standing 19.4 metres tall in Le Conquet, Finistère, was designed by engineer Victor Fénoux and constructed between 1867 and 1871, inaugurated on 1 May 1872. Positioned largely on the Pointe Saint-Mathieu, it guides vessels through the Chenal du Four and protects them from the treacherous Chaussée des Pierres Noires, particularly during night and stormy conditions. Owned by the French state, the lighthouse was classified as a French Monument historique by decree on 31 December 2015 and formally listed by the Ministry of Culture and Communication on 20 April 2017.
