The Pokrovskaya Church in Mary, Turkmenistan, is a Russian Orthodox church built around 1900 in the Russian Revival style by Russian military forces following their seizure of the city in 1884. Constructed to serve the garrison stationed there to guard against attacks from British and Afghan forces, the church hosted baptisms in 1917 under priests Tikhon Protasov and deacon John Ilyichev. After the Russian Revolution, religious practice was suppressed; by the 1930s the building was closed and converted into a club and later a military warehouse. The church was restored to religious use in 1947 following the end of World War II.
