The Preston England Temple is the 52nd operating house of worship of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located in Chorley, Lancashire, ten miles south of Preston. Announced in October 1992 by Gordon B. Hinckley during the rededication of the London England Temple, it became the second LDS temple built in Great Britain and the sixth in Europe. Construction began with a groundbreaking ceremony in June 1994, also conducted by Hinckley. The temple exemplifies modern classical architecture, distinguished by a single spire. It serves a broad constituency across the British Isles and Ireland, including Latter-day Saints communities from the Midlands and northern England, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland.
