The Prudential Assurance Building stands on Dale Street in central Liverpool as a Grade II listed office building showcasing Victorian Gothic Revival architecture. Designed by Alfred Waterhouse and constructed between 1885 and 1886, it was commissioned as regional headquarters for Prudential, the country's leading insurance provider. Waterhouse, celebrated for his work on the Natural History Museum and Manchester Town Hall, employed his signature approach of red architectural terracotta and brick, echoing his design for Prudential's London headquarters at Holborn Bars. A tower was added by Waterhouse's son Paul in 1905. Gold lettering above the first-floor windows displays the building's name, while Roman numerals on the corner bay mark the completion date of 1886. The building ranks among Liverpool's most architecturally significant commercial structures and contributes to the city's UNESCO World Heritage Site designation. It currently serves as offices for Her Majesty's Courts and Tribunal Service.
