The Punta de Anaga Lighthouse stands on Tenerife's northernmost point in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where the Anaga mountain range descends to the sea. Built in 1864 and rising 12 meters, this active lighthouse was established after plans for a second-order beacon on the distant Savage Islands—165 kilometers to the north—proved unfeasible owing to sovereignty disputes. A first-order light was commissioned at Punta de Anaga instead, making it a significant aid to navigation in the Canary Islands.
