Perched on the rocky northwestern coast of Menorca, Spain, the Punta Nati Lighthouse is a 19-meter stone tower completed in 1913–1914. Built by engineer Mauro Serret in response to French demands for better coastal lighting—catalyzed by the catastrophic 1910 sinking of the French steamship *Général Chanzy*, which claimed 156 lives—the lighthouse was constructed with remarkable speed, becoming operational within just over a year. The lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation today, part of a series of beacons Serret designed to protect ships traversing the hazardous northern waters of the island, which had seen multiple wrecks despite the earlier Cavalleria lighthouse built in 1857.
