Located in Rezé, a suburb of Nantes in France, the Unité d'habitation of Nantes-Rezé is a modernist apartment building designed by Le Corbusier and completed in 1955. The structure contains 294 residential units along with a school on its top level, embodying Le Corbusier's influential housing concept for integrated urban living. Distinguished by its use of pilotis—supporting columns that elevate the building above ground—the structure was ingeniously sited to preserve the surrounding agricultural landscape while creating an unusual setting: the building rises from within a pond populated with water and ducks. Unlike its predecessor, the Marseille Unité d'habitation, this version forgoes a retail component. Recognized as a monument historique since 2001, it stands as a significant example of post-war modernist residential architecture and Le Corbusier's vision for communal living.
