The Red Church, a partially preserved late Roman basilica erected in the late fifth to early sixth century, stands near Perushtitsa in western Plovdiv Province, Bulgaria, some fifteen kilometres southwest of Plovdiv itself. Built in Byzantine architectural style, it is a rare example of solid brick construction for a church of the Late Antique period in Bulgaria—a building technique that also bestowed its name, as the distinctive red colour of the bricks has defined the structure throughout its history.
