On Keizerstraat in The Hague, this 1903 shop-dwelling by architect C.J.M. van Duijne exemplifies transitional Dutch architecture of the early twentieth century, blending historicizing motifs with influences drawn from the Vienna Secession. Built on a rectangular plan, the building integrates seamlessly into a closed row of facades while asserting its individual character through Jugendstil ornamentation. Now protected as a Rijksmonument, it stands as a testament to the cosmopolitan architectural currents that reached the Netherlands during the Secession's ascendant years.
