Robbers Cave State Park, located 5 miles north of Wilburton in Latimer County's Sans Bois Mountains, is a state park established in 1929 and designed in the National Park Service rustic style. Originally called Latimer State Park before its 1936 renaming, the park encompasses more than 8,000 acres of scenic, hilly woodland across southeast Oklahoma and includes three lakes. The landscape of sandstone cliffs and forested terrain has long attracted outdoor enthusiasts for hiking, rock climbing, rappelling, and horseback riding, while the park offers trout fishing and hunting opportunities. Historically, the cave itself served as a hideout for notorious outlaws Belle Starr and Jesse James, adding to its regional significance. Today listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the park remains a destination for visitors seeking both recreational activities and natural scenery.
