Rocchetta Mattei is an eclectic 19th-century castle in Grizzana Morandi, Emilia-Romagna, northern Italy, begun in 1850 by Count Cesare Mattei atop the ruins of the medieval Rocca di Savignano. Perched on a rocky spur above the Reno valley, the castle blends neo-medieval, Moorish revival, and Liberty (Art Nouveau) elements in a deliberately labyrinthine layout, conceived simultaneously as Mattei's residence and the headquarters of his alternative medical system of electrohomeopathy. Italian heritage authorities recognize it as one of the most significant examples of 19th-century eclectic architecture in Italy. Since its acquisition by the Fondazione Carisbo in 2005 and subsequent restoration, the complex has operated as a museum and cultural venue, attracting over 73,000 visitors annually and establishing itself as a major heritage destination in the Apennines.
