The Rothschild Pavilion is a Prairie School dance hall in Rothschild, Wisconsin, built in 1911 of stone to replace an earlier timber-and-bark structure that burned that same year. The original pavilion, erected in 1908 by the Wausau Street Railway Company to attract trolley riders from Wausau, was a rustic affair with burlap rain curtains. The replacement building features a distinctive wooden dance floor supported by railroad car springs atop granite foundations, creating a "floating" bounce effect believed to be unique in the United States. The pavilion hosted performances by major orchestras including those of Lawrence Welk and Guy Lombardo, as well as later acts like Buddy Holly, while serving local needs for wedding dances, proms, and family reunions. Situated in Pine Park, which at various times included a baseball field, zoo, hockey rink, ski jump, and roller coaster, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
