Hautecombe Abbey, a Cistercian monastery founded in 1101 in Saint-Pierre-de-Curtille in the Savoie region of France, later became a Benedictine house and served as the principal burial site for members of the House of Savoy. Built in Cistercian architectural style with later Troubadour elements, the abbey was substantially redesigned by architect Ernesto Melano. Once a center of monastic life, Hautecombe transformed into a prominent pilgrimage and tourist destination, now attracting approximately 150,000 visitors annually. Classified as a historical monument and recognized as a World Heritage Site, the abbey remains a significant landmark of medieval French religious architecture and dynastic significance.
