Ruse Central Railway Station, the main transport hub for Bulgaria's fifth-largest city, is a striking example of Stalinist architecture completed in late 1955. Built in response to the opening of the Danube Bridge in 1954, the station was briefly the largest on the Balkan peninsula upon inauguration, with three platforms, four tracks, and one passing track. Located on the surface, it functions as a major junction serving routes to Gorna Oryakovitsa, Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, and Burgas, as well as international connections to Bucharest and Istanbul. The station also serves as a border checkpoint for trains crossing into Romania via the Danube Bridge.
