The Sainsbury Centre is an art museum on the campus of the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England. Completed in 1978, it was one of the first major public buildings designed by Norman Foster and Wendy Cheesman and represents a landmark example of high-tech architecture. Housing a collection of world art, the building was granted Grade II* listed status in December 2012. Following its 2023 relaunch under director Jago Cooper, the centre adopted the ethos "Living Art Sharing Stories," becoming the first museum in the world to formally recognise art as alive—a conceptual shift that gives agency to the objects in its collection and encourages visitors to build relationships with the works.
