Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Kuopio, Finland, is the main church of the Kuopio Orthodox Parish and seat of the Orthodox Diocese of Karelia. Completed in 1903 and designed by master builder Aleksander Isakson from Vyborg, the cathedral exemplifies Russian Revival architecture in its red-brick appearance, achieved through a plastered and painted facade over genuine brick beneath. The cathedral's design echoes contemporary Russian garrison churches. Its most distinguished feature is the iconostasis, crafted at the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Saint Petersburg and donated by Governor-General Nikolay Bobrikov, while eight bells hang within the structure. Consecrated in 1904 by Archbishop Nikolai, the cathedral underwent comprehensive renovation between 2003 and 2004, during which the iconostasis gilding was renewed and all interiors restored. Protected under Finnish law governing Orthodox churches, it stands as a significant example of Eastern Orthodox architecture in Scandinavia.
