Saint Stepanos Monastery is an Armenian monastery located approximately 15 kilometers northwest of Julfa in East Azarbaijan province, northwestern Iran, situated in a deep canyon along the Araxes River near the border with Nakhchivan. Originally constructed in the ninth century, the stone structure was rebuilt during the Safavid era following damage from warfare and earthquakes, and later modified during the Qajar period. The monastery exemplifies the continuity of Armenian architectural traditions across centuries of regional upheaval. It forms part of the Armenian Monastic Ensembles of Iran, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and remains an important cultural property on Iran's National Heritage register.
