Built in 1887 by the San Jose Ranch Company in San Dimas, California, this 15,000-square-foot Queen Anne and Shingle style structure was originally conceived as a hotel with 33 rooms and 14 fireplaces. Despite its ambitious scale, the building never received a paying guest, having been constructed in anticipation of a land boom that failed to materialize. Sold to James W. and Sue Walker in 1889 for $25,000, the property remained in the Walker family for seven generations before becoming a restaurant in 1979. After standing vacant from 1997, the building was acquired and renovated by the City of San Dimas. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
