San Giorgio Monastery stands on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, a Benedictine foundation dating to 982. Originally conceived in the early medieval period, the monastery underwent significant Renaissance reconstruction involving the prominent architects Andrea Palladio, Baldassarre Longhena, and Andrea Buora, whose work shaped its enduring architectural character. The complex adjoins the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, which continues to serve the monastic community. Following secularization, much of the monastery's historic buildings were repurposed as the headquarters of the Cini Foundation, while the site retains its status as Italian national heritage.
