Built in Milan in 1970, the Church of San Nicolao della Flue represents architect Ignazio Gardella's exploration of Brutalist design applied to sacred architecture. The building exemplifies the austere, sculptural aesthetic of Brutalism through its robust concrete forms and stark geometric composition, demonstrating how the modernist movement engaged with religious building typologies during the latter half of the twentieth century.
