Savoy is a landmark restaurant in Helsinki located on Eteläesplanadi street, designed by Finnish architects Aino and Alvar Aalto and opened on 3 June 1937. The space was furnished by Artek, the company the Aaltos had founded two years earlier. The main dining hall is long and narrow, evocative of a tram or ship saloon, with its original functionalist interior largely intact—featuring plywood, wood, and slammed brick—and windows overlooking Esplanadi park. At its opening, the restaurant was remarkably equipped with four elevators and air conditioning to remove cigar smoke, amenities unusual for the era. Known colloquially as "Aalto's stable," "giraffe stable," or "elephant stable," Savoy is considered a hallmark of Finnish cuisine and underwent renovation in 2019.
