The Sheats–Goldstein Residence, located in the Beverly Crest neighborhood of Los Angeles, is a single-family home designed by American architect John Lautner between 1961 and 1963. Drawing inspiration from the sandstone ledge upon which it sits, Lautner conceived a cave-like dwelling that harnesses the dramatic hillside site to maximize views of Benedict Canyon and Beverly Hills. The house exemplifies both Mid-Century Modern design and American Organic Architecture principles, with its form derived as an extension of its natural environment and tailored to its inhabitants. Characteristic of Lautner's practice, the design addresses the specific challenges and constraints of the site, making the dwelling an integral expression of its dramatic topography.
