The Shriver Center, located at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, is a Georgian-style building that opened in 1957 as the University Center. Originally conceived to address student petitions for a dedicated recreational and social space in the postwar era—when the campus lacked facilities beyond the gymnasium and a dining hall—the center served students, faculty, staff, and the broader Oxford community. It was later renamed after Phillip R. Shriver. Though the building remains central to campus life, its original capacity proved inadequate as the student body tripled within fifty years, prompting the construction of the adjacent Armstrong Student Center to accommodate growing demand.
