The Sirjan Twin Icehouses are a pair of traditional Persian yakhchal (ice storage structures) located in Sirjan, Iran, and recognized as part of the Iranian National Heritage. Built in the Qajar architectural style, each structure rises 12.5 meters and is constructed from adobe and mud—materials that provided excellent insulation for preserving ice during hot seasons. These twin icehouses exemplify the ingenuity of pre-modern Persian engineering, designed to store winter ice for use throughout the year by exploiting the thermal properties of their earthen construction.
