The Southern Bell Telephone Company Building, now the AT&T Communications Building, stands at 51 Peachtree Center Avenue in downtown Atlanta as the city's main telephone exchange. Designed by Marye, Alger and Vinour in an austere Art Deco style, the structure was completed in 1929 at six stories—a modest final form compared to its original ambition to reach 25 stories and claim the title of Atlanta's tallest building. A series of additions in 1947, 1948, and 1963 expanded it to fourteen stories, while a microwave communications tower now crowns the roof. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building stands at 257 meters in height.
