St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Newton, Iowa, is a Carpenter Gothic structure completed in 1881 by contractor David S. Strover and master carpenter Joe Stevens. The building exemplifies the distinctive wooden architectural style that flourished in nineteenth-century America, characterized by decorative timber framing and Gothic Revival details executed in wood rather than stone. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, the church continues to serve as a parish church within the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa.
