Strašnice Crematorium, completed in 1931 in the Vinohrady district of Prague, is the largest crematory in Europe by area and represents a significant work of Constructivism designed by architect Alois Mezera. The building holds profound historical significance as the site where numerous victims of Nazi and Communist persecution were cremated, including writer Vladislav Vančura, general Josef Mašín, politician Milada Horáková, and bishop Gorazd of Prague. President Václav Havel was also cremated here. Recognized as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic, the crematorium stands as both an architectural statement and a memorial to those lost under twentieth-century totalitarian regimes.
