Sümeg Castle, perched atop Castle Hill in Veszprém county, Hungary, some 20 miles north of Lake Balaton, was built in the mid or late 13th century under Béla IV of Hungary. The fortification underwent successive expansions over its history, notably receiving reinforced defenses and a second tower during the 15th century. The castle has endured multiple sieges and fires, testifying to its strategic importance and turbulent past. Today it serves as the primary tourist attraction for the town of Sümeg.
