The Sunsphere is a 266-foot tall observation tower in World's Fair Park in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee, built in 1982 as the iconic symbol of that year's World's Fair. Constructed of steel and glass in the high-tech modern style, the structure features a hexagonal steel truss framework supporting a distinctive 75-foot gold-colored glass sphere at its crown. Positioned across a man-made pond from the Tennessee Amphitheater, the Sunsphere and amphitheater are the only surviving structures from the 1982 fair, making it a notable landmark of Knoxville's downtown waterfront.
