The Swedish Hill Historic District is a residential neighborhood in downtown Austin, Texas, that originated as a Swedish immigrant enclave beginning in the 1870s. Prompted by proximity to downtown businesses, around sixty-seven Swedish families constructed homes in the area, which became known as Svenska Kullen. The district, bounded historically by Waller Street, Red River Street, 15th Street, and 19th Street (now including West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard), is characterized by Victorian architecture. Notable early residents included S. A. Lundell, who built the first house in the neighborhood, and Carl John Swahn. Today it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains a significant example of an immigrant community's built legacy in Texas.
