The Old West Austin Historic District is a collection of three residential neighborhoods—Old Enfield, Pemberton Heights, and Bryker Woods—located on a plateau west of downtown Austin, Texas. Developed between 1886 and 1953, these communities represent Austin's first automobile suburbs, departing from the streetcar-dependent development that had shaped the city earlier. Stretching from Mopac Expressway to Lamar Boulevard and from 13th Street to 35th Street, the district comprises well-preserved early-to-mid-twentieth-century residences that document the measured expansion of suburban growth alongside Austin's development. The neighborhoods blend revivalist and modern architectural styles and were collectively added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
