Tenczyn Castle, situated in the village of Rudno within Poland's Jura region, is a medieval fortress built as a seat of the prominent Tęczyński family. Originally constructed in the medieval period and later rebuilt in Renaissance style, the castle occupies a dramatic hilltop—the highest point of Garb Tenczyński at 411 metres above sea level, itself formed from a Permian lava stream. The structure suffered severe damage during the mid-17th-century Deluge, when Swedish-Brandenburgian forces pillaged and burned it while searching for the Polish Crown Jewels and the family's rumored treasures. Though subsequently restored, a major fire in the mid-18th century reduced it again to ruin, a state it has remained in ever since. Today it stands as a protected immovable monument in Poland.
