Completed in 1894 and designed by Thomas Franklin Schneider, the Cairo stands at 1615 Q Street NW in Washington's Dupont Circle neighborhood as a pioneering residential skyscraper and the District's tallest apartment building. Rising 164 feet in Moorish Revival brick, this landmark sparked local regulations and federal legislation that fundamentally restricted building heights throughout the capital and continue to define the city's skyline today. Now operating as a condominium, the Cairo houses studios and multi-bedroom units for renters and owners alike.
