The Thomas B. Townsend House, located on the corner of Townsend Street and S. 5th Street in Montrose, Colorado, was constructed in 1888 as one of the valley's oldest permanent residences. Built of brick from a plant possibly dedicated to its construction alone, this Victorian-style dwelling exemplifies American Victorian architecture. The house featured an innovative water system utilizing rain troughs and a cistern in its attic to provide running water to its occupants. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
