The Thomas Earl House, located at 1221 Seminary Street in Napa, California, is an Italianate residence built in 1861. The house is significant for its association with Thomas Earl (1825–1893), a prominent Napa citizen of four decades, and was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Originally constructed with 21-inch-thick walls using an early concrete formula lacking the strength of modern Portland cement, the structure sustained severe damage in the 2014 South Napa earthquake. Following its purchase in 2017 by businessman Marc Porat and Claire Tomkins, the owners pursued an innovative preservation strategy: rather than moving the structure, architect Tim Deming developed a "panelization" plan to carefully disassemble the external walls into sections for restoration and reassembly on a new steel frame and foundation, a process approved by the cultural heritage commission in December 2020.
