The Thomas J. Watson Library is the research library of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, housed within the Met Fifth Avenue's main building. Designed by the architectural firm McKim, Mead & White and completed in 1870, the library holds extensive collections spanning decorative arts, architecture, and art history, with substantial holdings in modern European, ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Asian, and Islamic art. The library is named after Thomas J. Watson, former chairman and CEO of IBM, who served as a Met trustee and vice president from 1945 to 1951, during which he chaired the museum's 75th Anniversary Campaign. Watson's enduring support includes a book purchase fund and funding for the chief librarian position.
