In Pasargadae, the ruined first capital of the Achaemenid Empire in Iran's Fars Province, stands the limestone tomb of Cyrus the Great, built in the sixth century BCE. Rising 11.1 meters high and constructed in the Achaemenid architectural style, the mausoleum is a landmark of ancient engineering ingenuity: it is considered the world's oldest base-isolated structure, a design that grants it remarkable resilience against earthquakes. Part of the UNESCO-recognized archaeological site of Pasargadae, the tomb remains a key monument of Iranian cultural heritage.
