The Tzistarakis Mosque, built in 1759 during the Ottoman occupation of Athens, stands in Monastiraki Square in the heart of the city. This Ottoman-era structure, also known as the Mosque of the Lower Fountain or Mosque of the Lower Market for its proximity to the Ancient Agora, was repurposed after the Ottoman period and now functions as an annex of the Museum of Greek Folk Art, displaying traditional Greek art. The building remains an archaeological site in Greece, embodying the architectural legacy of Ottoman rule in the classical cityscape.
