Built in 1001 in Byurakan on the slopes of Mount Aragats, the Vahramashen Church exemplifies Armenian architectural tradition. Commissioned by Prince Vahram Pahlavuni of the Pahlavuni family, the church—also known as Vahramashen Surp Astvatsatsin or the Church of Amberd—was completed by 1026, as documented by an inscription on the inside lintel of its north portal. Situated between the fortress of Amberd and a wall along a promontory overlooking the Arkashian River canyon in Aragatsotn province, the structure stands as a cultural heritage monument in Armenia.
