The Château de Voltaire, built in 1762 in Ferney-Voltaire near the Swiss border, served as the residence of the philosopher Voltaire from 1761 until 1778. Designed by architects Jean-Michel Billon and Léonard Racle, the château exemplifies Neoclassical architecture. The building was designated a historical monument in 1958 and acquired by the French State in 1999, earning recognition as part of the Maisons des Illustres program that commemorates homes of notable figures.
