The W.L. Hill Store, built in 1913 on York Street in Sharon, South Carolina, is a three-story commercial building designed by locally prominent architect Julian Starr in the Chicago School style. The largest structure in town, it was conceived to rival the grand department stores of major cities through its imposing size and design. Constructed during an era when such monumental commercial architecture symbolized civic ambition and prosperity, the building reflects the aspirations of early twentieth-century retail commerce. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 20, 1995, and stands within the Hill Complex Historic District.
