Located at 301 Park Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets in Midtown Manhattan, the Waldorf Astoria is a 47-story, 625-foot Art Deco tower designed by architects Schultze and Weaver and completed in 1931. Built to replace the original Waldorf-Astoria hotel (demolished in 1929 to make way for the Empire State Building), this landmark structure held the distinction of being the world's tallest hotel until 1957. Both its exterior and interior are designated New York City landmarks. The building has housed some of the world's most prestigious accommodations, including a celebrated Presidential Suite that famously served as Herbert Hoover's residence for two decades. Following its 2014 acquisition by the Anbang Insurance Group for $1.95 billion—then the highest price ever paid for a hotel—the building underwent extensive renovation and conversion, reopening in July 2025 with 375 hotel rooms and 375 residential condominiums.
