Washington School, a one-story, T-shaped brick building constructed in 1937 in Monroe City, Missouri, exemplifies Colonial Revival architecture of the Depression era. Originally designed to house three classrooms for African-American students, the structure is now known as the Head Start Building. The school grounds retain period features including an original flagpole and merry-go-round, both erected contemporaneously with the main building. The complex was recognized for its historical significance and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
