The WCIS Bank at 365 Main Street in Worcester, Massachusetts is a composite historic structure comprising two granite buildings joined in 1953. The older section, built around 1851 as a joint venture between the Worcester Bank and the Boston and Worcester Rail Road, stands three stories in Italianate style at the corner of Foster and Norwich Street; its original ornamental details—including broken-scrolled pediments and bracketed window hoods—were obscured by 1960s stuccoing. The newer building, constructed in 1906 when the Worcester County Institution for Savings (the county's first chartered savings bank, established 1828) relocated to the Main and Foster corner, is also a three-story granite structure distinguished by large Doric columns fronting its central banking hall. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, the combined complex reflects the bank's evolving needs and prominence in Worcester's financial history until its 1994 merger into the First National Bank of Boston.
