Wesley Chapel, located in the unincorporated community of Hopetown in Ross County, Ohio, is a brick Gothic Revival church built on a stone foundation for a Methodist congregation. The building's core dates to 1834, with a five-sided addition erected on its northern side in 1888, topped by a distinctive pyramid-shaped roof. Originally featuring a tower above the entrance, the structure lost this element after being struck by lightning in 1926; subsequent repairs followed the damage. Since its founding, Wesley Chapel has served as the center of community life in Hopetown, hosting social gatherings alongside its religious functions. Many years elapsed before the church obtained a resident minister, relying instead on circuit riders. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, it stands as the sole religious building among more than forty Ross County locations on the register, recognized for both its architecturally significant Gothic Revival design and its importance to local history.
