Standing on the Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment in Moscow's Presnensky District, the White House (officially the House of the Government of the Russian Federation) is a Soviet Modernist government building completed in 1981. Designed by Dmitry Chechulin and built between 1965 and 1981, the 119-meter structure was originally commissioned to house the People's Control Committee and the Supreme Soviet of Russia. It now serves as the primary office and official workplace of the Russian prime minister. The building gained historical prominence during the failed August 1991 coup attempt, when it became a center of resistance, and sustained significant damage during the 1993 constitutional crisis before being subsequently repaired. It is recognized as a candidate heritage site in Russia.
